Ready to try some new dishes on the SouthCoast? New menu items are popping up all over the area as restaurants start switching to a lighter summer menu. It is the perfect time to try out a new place or an old favorite.

Just like it's heating up outside, it's heating up on the SouthCoast food scene. Here are some places to check out in the New Bedford area for a mouthwatering meal or a frozen treat and everything in between.

Every Thursday after 5 p.m. is Smash Burger Night at The Inn on Shipyard Park. For $13 you get a 4-ounce smash patty with fries on a brioche. There are four options to choose from: The Classic with diced onion, special sauce, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and cheese; Animal Style with caramelized mustard, cheese, grilled onions, special sauce, lettuce, tomato, and pickles; Rodeo with bbq sauce, fried onion strings, pickles, and cheese; or Fun Guy with mushrooms, garlic aioli, lettuce, tomato, and swiss. Ever feel left out of the after-dinner ice cream? Well, now there's a place for you to get your dairy-free frozen treats. Sorbae Frozen Treats is hosting its grand opening event on from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 11, with kid's activities, pop flights, prizes, and more. They have all-natural frozen treats on sticks in a variety of flavors such as sweet corn, caramel macchiato, or Acia. There are Bae buns which are vegan brioche buns toasted with creaming sorbae and toppings which you can build your own version of and cold or hot drinks. With summer heading this way BOCCA is putting out some new specials. For lunch, you can get the Carbonara with capellini pasta, a rich cream sauce, egg, green peas, and crispy bacon for $15 or the Steak & cheese Calzone, shredded steak, caramelized onion, bell peppers, mushrooms, and a side of red sauce for $14. Available all day is the Branzino Alla Griglia, Big Bocca Pizza, Lobster Roll, Scallop & Bacon Ravioli, Watermelon Feta Salad, and Berry Napoleon. Try something new at 100 Alden Road, Fairhaven.

This weekend kicks off the Day of Portugal Fall River, it starts Thursday, June 8 with private events but continues Through Sunday, June 11 with free entertainment and activities. From bifanas to caçoila and favas to chouriço and peppers and malassadas there will be plenty of food to purchase as well as some great wines and beer. There is something for everyone at The Gates of the City on Ponta Delgada Blvd., New Bedford.

Try ordering some delicious Lebanese cuisine from Lebanese Pita Pocket, 519 State Road, Dartmouth. For vegetarians or meat eaters, this is the place to go for a feel-good meal. You can't go wrong with the Chicken Falafel Plate, grilled chicken, falafel, lettuce, tomato, with tahini dressing and a side for $16.95; or the Grape Leaves Plate, stuffed grape leaves, onions, lettuce, and tomato for $14.95. There are numerous varieties of wraps and plates for you to make your next favorite meal.

Just added to Moby Dick Brewing Co.'s menu is the Baked Salmon Sushi Bowl. You get marinated baked salmon served over jasmine rice with cucumbers, avocado, scallion, and nori flakes drizzled with ginger soy sauce for $27. They also have a new beer to try out Capsized Simcoe, a pale easy drinking semi-hoppy ale. Simcoe is known for its complex characteristic of stone fruit, pine, and citrus zest. For a great dinner and an even better brew head over to 16 South Water St., New Bedford.

Love French onion soup? Then you will love the dinner special at The Profile Tavern - French Onion Chicken. This mouthwatering dish is twin grilled chicken breasts, caramelized onions, French onion broth, Swiss & provolone cheese, scallions, mashed potatoes, and chef's vegetable. Dine in on a Tuesday and get the kids a $5 cheese pizza with a purchase of a beverage deal from 7:30 p.m. to close. A delicious night is in store for you at 2 Crossroads Dr., East Freetown.
